We are a Kenyan, independent, women-led, non-governmental organization.
Global Justice Kenya (GJK) is a Kenyan, independent, women-led, non-governmental organization committed to upholding human rights by advancing the Right to a Remedy of victims of gross human rights violations and international crimes.
We acknowledge that crime is always profit motivated and that there is a urgent need of holding the network of crimes' profiteers financially accountable to survivors, increasing the cost of human suffering and exploitation.
We recognize that without a way of legal recourse, rights remain on paper, and are ultimately unenforceable. Therefore, we accompany survivors in the pursuit of justice they deserve, using sophisticated research to establish liability, documenting cases to the highest evidentiary standards and providing access to legal representation. We work tirelessly across East Africa to dismantle the numerous barriers that prevent victims from accessing legal remedies, including economic, geographic and social barriers in accessing justice, as well as inadequate legal representation and lack of legal awareness.
Seen the structural vulnerabilities that women face in the region, we pay particular attention to gender-specific needs by offering tailored, gender-sensitive support services that directly respond to the unique forms of abuse women encounter. This includes providing trauma-informed legal aid that is attuned to the experiences of sexual and gender-based violence. Our services are designed to empower women to speak out, seek justice, and begin the healing process, including the provision of information on legal rights and access to safe reporting mechanisms to help break the cycle of exploitation.
VISION
A world where justice is not a privilege but a fundamental right, accessible to all, regardless of their gender and socio-economic status.
MISSION
Advance the Right to Remedy and Reparations of victims of gross human rights violations, increasing the cost of profiting from human suffering.
